    They'd get just as much benefit from it existing and handing over information on dissidents on demand, or blocking unfavourable news and the accounts that post it, all the things the right accused twitter of doing continually but actually has done under Elon when it benefits his business interests in places ruled by right wing autocrats. It's worth more to the worst people if it exists as a propaganda engine rather than a dead site as it's userbase will move elsewhere and they'll be back at square one.

    At this point it feels like he lost it by choice. He got the keys to the kingdom, got a look at how bot accounts benefit conservative figures and heavily bolster his own numbers and decided it was better to do nothing than to lose a few hundred thousand followers and be screamed at by dribbling lunatics over their loss of reach.

    India surprised they didn't go with all three anyway as something not working has never stopped American police going with it before, and it would have offered a lot of sweet, sweet probable cause to go harass the residents of poor neighborhoods more than they already do.

    Because the right wing view 'Free speech' as little more than a shield that they, and only they, can carry to protect them from the consequences of being assholes, and to bash into their enemies du jour. They are dishonest hypocrites and are proud of that fact and no amount of calling them out will change that, but the problem with Elon is too thin skinned to just let people calling him out stand, he's so online that his twitter usage is bonded to his real life now so he's going to spend his billions trying to make people either love him or shut up, or else. He saw Peter Thiel destroy Gawker by funding someone else's lawsuit so he's going to try and do the same thing over and over until he gets a 'win'.

    This is a deeply, deeply stupid idea and amounts to state mandated doxxing. Once the platforms have the information, you will get lawsuit after lawsuit to unmask them, and platforms like Twitter will just hand over all their information on dissidents to Saudi Arabia or the Modi regime in india as they've demonstrated they're happy to just roll over to their demands.

    Republicans have long looked upon the great firewall of China and the massive state inflicted censorship with envious eyes and whispered to themselves 'Wouldn't it be great if we were in charge of that?', inbetween public screams of censorship because right wing stochastic terrorists were suspended for 3 hours on twitter for massive violations of the rules they agreed to when they signed up. People like DeSantis will not be happy until a republican minority get to decide what the majority of Americans can access online, and are going to spend the next decade nibbling away around the edges of free speech like rats while the republican supreme court justices advise them what they will need to change to get them to ignore precedent and the constitution. Just look at what they did with abortion and voting rights.

    Can't do that... Yet. These is a slew of cases designed to provide the supreme court ample opportunity to whittle the things the federal government can do down to a nub. They've already overturned settled precedent on abortion rights the first chance they get and the very existence of the EPA and other agencies are next so America is in for a bumpy ride. All those regulations that protected people from unrestrained capitalism are going to be gone soon unless there supreme court seats open in the next few months.

    Yes, it's the fault of education acknowledging America's minorities and their treatment creating online mobs and not decades of a well funded, well organised campaigns by the likes of the Heritage Foundation attacking minority groups at all levels of society, people like Steve Bannon using everything from anonymous online forums like 4/8 Chan to ferment hate and the machinery of government itself to pass laws deleting inconvenient facts from history and science test books with social media companies promoting the worst propagandists because making people angry is highly profitable for theme as it generates engagement. CRT was only ever taught at the college level in legal courses, but the right sure does love it's easily memorable buzzwords and lies, false stories generated by shitbag funded by billionaires that have to be true but never are. Everyone has a tale ofma cousin who has a friend whose brother's wife works in a school that is transing the kids, teaching CRT and putting out litter trays for furries, yet there's never any direct evidence, people never see it themselves, they just hear through Facebook, the same stories over and over and over again which have to be true, because they sound real and make people mad, which is the entire point. If you're mad at black people, at trans people, you're not anywhere near as mad at Elon for having more wealth than some nations, Jeff Bezos, Mitt Romney and others stripmining the retail sector, mining and petrochemical billionaires mpoisoning the air and water, with none of them paying to repair any damage they cause to the land or to society. Minorities existing aren't why your life is sh#t, but they sure do provide a convenient distraction for the ruling class, it's why they've been in the cross hairs since the dawn of this disgusting capitalist hell we endure. Also the right were never cool with Milo, the log cabin republicans et al, there's a reason they were all cut loose the second that they felt the figleaf was no longer needed as that's all they ever were. Caitlyn Jenner is employed by Fox but you suuuure wouldn't know it given how often they put her on TV these days, a trans person who'll say 'trans people are bad actually' isn't as useful when your audience will boycott you for acknowledging Trans people at all. They don't want to see 'one of the good ones', they don't want to see them at all...but yes, it's all that mean ol' Biden and the minorities doing this, and deleting theme from public life will help. Just look at how great the lavender scare era of America was for gay people and society, look at how amazing life was for racial minorities prior to the civil rights era. Everyone got along and everything was going swell! Oh wait.
