Sounds to me like Apple needs to do to the US Government what Google did to German News sites. Simply give them what they ask for and a little more - turn off all encryption for US Government phones. :)
Devin Nunes is obviously filing all of the frivolous law suits just to make the point that his 'Discouraging Frivolous Lawsuits Act' was needed. He sacrificed a pawn when he tried to sue a cow and now he's using his rook to attack other congress critters in an attempt to force them into check mate. I mean his strategy is simply genius. /s
In the United States, a defamation action that seeks monetary damages is the only remedy available to [me where I can get paid by] those who [feel like they] have been defamed. We should be celebrating [my monetary good fortune], not disparaging, those who [ab]use the courts to resolve their [petty butt hurt] disputes.
The one thing I never see mentioned is encryption is relatively new, but codes have been around for centuries. One time pads and book ciphers have been around almost as long as there have been books. If "going dark" was a thing, why didn't J. Edgar Hoover whine about codes and needing code breakers?
Sounds to me like the EU should provide a free upload filter that any company can CHOOSE to use... Then when it doesn't work (like we all know it WILL), the EU itself would be responsible for the failure and the fines. :)
Google could (I don't admit does) send traffic to sites
Seriously? Have you ever went to Google News? It displays a list of news HEADLINES with links to the story.
If the "story" is completely summed up in the headline, it's probably not a story you deserve to be paid to write.
DOE says it's caused by frozen NATURAL GAS well heads....

Legal Watchdogs
Hopefully, the Watchdogs will corral the herd of suits Nunes has pending and brand them as the nuisance suites they are.
Moo
Apple needs to pull a Google....
Sounds to me like Apple needs to do to the US Government what Google did to German News sites. Simply give them what they ask for and a little more - turn off all encryption for US Government phones. :)
Nunes is playing chess
Devin Nunes is obviously filing all of the frivolous law suits just to make the point that his 'Discouraging Frivolous Lawsuits Act' was needed. He sacrificed a pawn when he tried to sue a cow and now he's using his rook to attack other congress critters in an attempt to force them into check mate. I mean his strategy is simply genius. /s
Signed, Moo
Amicus brief time
Sounds like someone needs to convince Amazon to sign on to a amicus brief for the Supreme Court. ;)
Re: Corrected.....
"[Moo]"
Corrected.....
I think it was supposed to say:
Free
Saying "It's free and anyone can join" is no more deceptive than a politician saying "government if for the people".
Wasn't funny to us...
I read "wasn't funny to us" as "hit too close to home".
Minority Report, here we come...
This sounds like the pre-crime division on Minority Report... Because that worked out so well!
Encryption is just math, but codes are art.
The one thing I never see mentioned is encryption is relatively new, but codes have been around for centuries. One time pads and book ciphers have been around almost as long as there have been books. If "going dark" was a thing, why didn't J. Edgar Hoover whine about codes and needing code breakers?
So wait....
Didn't we already determine that the monkey didn't get the copyright? ;)
License
So, does TechDirt have a license for that fancy chart? If not, today's number just went up by €532.5! /s
Re: Consent
Have you not read the articles where DNA was used to identify and convict the wrong person?
Re: Re: HIPAA
Not to mention that HIPAA also has a clause about cooperating with government investigations.....
Re: Data protection
Wait, you think the GDPR keeps the government OUT of your data?
Government Provided Upload Filters
Sounds to me like the EU should provide a free upload filter that any company can CHOOSE to use... Then when it doesn't work (like we all know it WILL), the EU itself would be responsible for the failure and the fines. :)
Re: Re: Re: How do you "adapt" to someone taking your
My point was if "your content" is the title of your story - you have NO story or content.
Re: How do you "adapt" to someone taking your content for free?
Most likely, nothing....
If you read the source article, the photo was of snow falling on a bridge. Unless the bridge was built after 1990 there will be no copyright on it.
