"These fake weapons put [...] law enforcement at risk"
How, exactly ? Are cops likely to accidentally take their kid's toy gun to work instead of the their "work gun" ? Please tell me your cops are trained better than that...
Those tanks the police use were "for very limited circumstances", too. But it always seems like such a waste to have them just sitting around unused...
I still don't see how a court justified the idea that it's ok for cops not to know the law. I mean obviously they aren't lawyers, but what do we pay them for ? To enforce the law.
It's like having parking enforcement people who don't know the meanings of road signs or parking meters. "Yes, you were legally parked, but you can't really expect Bob here to know that, now, can you ?"
Surely intellectual property instruction belongs after "Reading" but before "wRiting", to ensure that you don't write anything down that you previously read...
It seems that the whole Stingray situation would likely have been much better if there hadn't been those NDAs in place (less incentive for "parallel construction" a.k.a. "lying to the courts", for example). Pity they didn't address that, too, because that means we can have all the same issues when the next cool toy for law enforcement appears.
Funny. The Liberals are in the pockets of big business, same as ever. They tabled the bill for CETA with no explanatory memorandum the day after signing the treaty, despite their own policies for treaties of waiting 21 sitting days and always having an explanatory memorandum.
Fair use
If only there was a country where copyright included a broad fair use regime and where there were copyright owners making plenty of money anyway.
Re: I know this will be hidden, but
How and where would they be "performed for free" ? A lesson is not a performance, and fees would be payable for any actual performance.
Plus of course, they weren't previously being paid for this, and they did compose the works being taught, so that rather disproves your theory...
Curious

Just like the tanks
Those tanks the police use were "for very limited circumstances", too. But it always seems like such a waste to have them just sitting around unused...
Bizarre

Second and third Rs ?
Surely intellectual property instruction belongs after "Reading" but before "wRiting", to ensure that you don't write anything down that you previously read...
In summary
"You might have the skill to repair something, but I don't, so I don't see why you should be legally allowed to do so"
Lies, damn lies, ...
“In fact, an estimated 981 million movies and TV shows were downloaded in the U.S. last year using P2P. ”
You have to wonder (a) where this "estimate" comes from, and (b) what proportion of those were unauthorized.
"astute" could just be a typo
"obtuse", perhaps ?
Would be nice if they addressed the NDAs

Fair Use ?
It's pretty clearly newsworthy when a studio accidentally leaks things like this...
Re:
The tricky part is that they have to subtract the number of Americans they are allowed to spy on.
Re:
Yeah, they shouldn't be bricking devices that don't belong to them, regardless of the reason.
Re: Where is Justin Trudeau on this?
Funny.

Presumably now useless anyway ?
If they lost them, they presumably can't prove in court that any evidence they find on them hasn't been corrupted in some way.
