News Sites Making More Creative Use Of Mapping Systems

from the it's-about-time dept

One of the frustrating things about newspaper websites is that most of them simply looked at the web as a way to take their print content and put it somewhere else. They very rarely looked at what additional features they could use on the web to make the content more valuable. However, with the rise of some new web services it appears that a few are finally realizing the opportunity. E-Media Tidbits is cataloging a number of examples where newspapers are using the Google Maps API to add an interactive map to an online news story. It’s a simple, but effective, way to make the content much more useful. It’s not, in any way, revolutionary, but it’s a good start. Hopefully, it will lead to news organizations realizing additional ways they can make their online content much more useful and valuable to visitors (and advertisers).
