DailyDirt: Endless Rain Into A Paper Cup….
from the urls-we-dig-up dept
It’s interesting how packaging can affect the way we consume products and perceive how they taste. Just adding some coloring to foods can make them seem to taste completely different. But changing the color of the packaging might have a similar effect? Here are some interesting packaging changes for some common beverages.
- Boxed wine has gained some acceptance with wine drinkers, but will a slightly smaller version of boxed wine sell well? Taking it to the next logical step, there should be “juice box” size wine boxes coming out, too. Who wants to sip wine through a tiny straw? [url]
- Some folks seem to hate plastic water bottles, so now there’s a paper milk carton without milk, filled with water. Looks like ultra-skim milk — 0% milk. [url]
- Drinking water from a paper cup is okay.. but a paper bottle? Paper water bottles haven’t exactly taken over since they were introduced, so… [url]
- Coca-Cola has stopped making its ‘White Christmas Cans’ after a month of selling them because consumers don’t like the new look of the can — and some people think it tastes different. The white cans also look a bit too much like Diet Coke, so some drinkers are getting a few more calories than they expected. [url]

By the way, StumbleUpon can also recommend some good Techdirt articles, too.

Wine in a juice-box sized box?
The juice-box sized wine boxes have been on sale for months. Years actually.

Re: Wine in a juice-box sized box?
Thanks, AC. I’ve never seen wine in a “juice box” before.. but I’m not surprised that it exists.
I’ve been referring to boxed wine for years as “juice boxes for adults.”
Yuck. I wouldn’t want to drink water from a paper bottle.

Berryshine.
I was in Malta in the mid 1990s and there juice boxes of wine were as popular with teens then as cans of energy drink and wodka are now.
I’ve had several boxed wines over the last decade, and while a lot of them truly taste like ass must taste, some of them are pretty decent, and give a good QPR. Most of them were in the 1 – 3 liter range, but I have not had the opportunity to try a smaller package yet. However, if I see one, I will.
The danger with the larger format ones is the same danger you would have if you converted your kitchen sink sprayer hole to a beer tap – entirely too convenient, and your liver will pay a hefty price somewhere down the line. A friend of mine had a neighbor who did just such a thing with the sink. Less than a year later, his doctor informed him that he had had his last drink. Sad.
At two Thanksgiving events, the regular Coke drinkers skipped their usual drink of choice because they assumed it was diet. Changing the can is a smart move.
umm..?
This is the signup post, right?
Coke Cans

Anyway,
The white coke cans were a great idea…
I hate it when people get mad for the little things.
