ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Lands Dumb Criminal In Cuffs

For those of you who have just woken up from a two-week coma, there are a couple of things you should know. People in Missouri are really pissed off. Iraq is being Iraq. ISIS isn’t a fictional spy agency on Archer any longer. And, finally, there’s this thing going around where people are pouring buckets of ice water over their heads in order to raise money for ALS, which it has successfully done to the tune of millions of dollars.
Which brings us to Jesean Morris of Omaha, who, while having an active warrant for his arrest, decided to accept the ice bucket challenge from a friend and posted his video online. Shortly after, the most obvious thing ever happened.
Officer Kevin Wiese says a tipster who knew Morris had an outstanding warrant called police after seeing the video. The person reporting the tip was able to identify the house where Morris shot the video.
The thing about hiding out somewhere while you’re on the run from police is that you typically shouldn’t then broadcast that location to the population of the internet, which includes roughly everyone. They call it hiding for a reason. You wouldn’t, say, take a video of all the places you hid easter eggs the night before and then give that video to the children doing the hunting, right? But, hey, I’m sure someone who did something this stupid was totally benign upon arrest. I mean, it’s not like you’d want to get in more trouble, right?
Police say when they approached Morris Friday, he gave a false name and spit in an officer’s face.
When you’ve broadcasted your location publicly, you don’t then get to try to put the toothpaste back in the tube by giving a false name. That should ramp the charges against Morris up exponentially, because that kind of stupid is criminal. The real question is whether or not this ice bucket challenge thing is now the most successful human endeavor of the year, given that it is not only raising millions of dollars to fight a horrific disesase, but it’s now also helping put criminals in handcuffs.

I’m not sure that would be an improvement.
I think it was Will Rogers who said “it’s a good thing we don’t get all the government we pay for”.
If you see government as doing something useful and worthwhile, then I suppose you want a government that “works”.
If you see it as a legalized Mafia, then less competence is probably better.
Without any Leviathan “to keep them all in awe” you get the strong enslaving the weak.
With too much Leviathan, Leviathan itself enslaves everyone.
So the question becomes “how little Leviathan can we get away with?”

Honestly, the easter egg hunt video idea does sound like fun – take the video the night before, show the video to all the kids after breakfast, then have the hunt itself after lunch. This shifts a contest of immediate perception to one of stored memory.
The trick, of course, is making sure none of the kids get a copy of the video and run around the yard with a cell phone. Perhaps using anti-camcording teams with night vision technology?

Think that tipster was the NSA. Cause nobody wakes up, watches a video and then says Holy Crap, he is over there officers.

It depends how much people like him – I know of a person who was reported for a crime because the person who reported him was after his girlfriend, but apart from that sort of thing it could have been someone who liked his victim more than they liked him.

The police have lied so many times that when I read something like that I can’t help wondering if they made it up just to be able to increase the charges against him.

I can’t tell the exact timing based on that one line, but all I can think of is the officers coming up to him, buddy saying “No, I’m not Jesean Morris, I’m Bob Belcher ::spiting noise::”. I dount that would help his case
