That’s about as bad an explanation of shell scripting as any I have seen. Generally speaking, a shell does not "convert" "code", rather, it interprets commands.
(And what is with this "markdown" stuff munging real quotes? Experts have now developed a new mark-up language called HTML, you may want to look into that.)
