I can't understand why someone would use such an unsecure channel to detonate a bomb ! Once armed, one can not even approach his device, with no way to deactivate it !! Russian Roulette with a bigger BOOM I guess !! :)
I'd like to add this even though it is not necessarily relevant to this story... Coppola said that around the time he was shooting Apocalypse Now :
'To me the great hope is that now these little 8mm video recorders and stuff have come out, some... just people who normally wouldn't make movies are going to be making them, and - you know - suddenly, one day, some little fat girl in Ohio is going to be the new Mozart - you know - and make a beautiful film with her little father's camera...corder - and for once the so-called professionalism about movies will be destroyed. Forever. And it will really become an art form.
That's my opinion.'
It is the closing scene to Hearts of Darkness... Definately worth watching !
Check out the conclusion in the last part !! It's the best "But think about the Children" plea I've ever heard !! Orson Welles has the perfect voice and tone !! :)
This story reminds me of a story that happened here in Quebec about 15 years ago. My friend's uncle figured out the algorithm for the computerized Keno game at the Montreal Casino by sitting in for hours at the time, writing down every winning string the machine gave. He went back home, analysed the results, and found a way to predict which numbers the computer would give out, based on the previous winning string. He made a few houndred thousands in 2 days with his technique, but was evantually singled out by Casino employees. The interesting part of the story is how the Casino reacted to the event. They took his winnings away, banned him from the Casino, but they offered him a job to audit all their computerized systems. I believe he still works for them today...
5. How about figuring out that whole Quebec thing? I'm sick of hearing about how they want independence. Slap that bitch down like it stole something!
How Canadian would that be ??? Back in '95, Ottawa sent us busloads of people in a huge demonstration, to tell us how much they love us. They don't want us to leave... And in the last 15 years, there has been a big shift towards pragmatism in the public opinion. Independence has mostly left the public debate, except for some idealistic dreamers... But you, in your great quality of Dark Ruler, should know more than anyone how people get emotional around injustices... :)
You know it could have been a good idea back in '80... But the global political and economic climates have changed so much since then...
If you are talking about Bell Canada, well THEY start shaping traffic at 4:30 and stop at 2:00 AM... everyday.. even on weekends... It's not about those pesky kids with their youtubes and their Wii's and their PS3's and their Spyrographs and their 90210 !!
Law enforcement in your area has nothing better to do than try to catch minors drinking (after the fact !!) ??? What part of the world are you from ? Saudi Arabia ?? This is utterly insane !
Design a new shirt? Hmmm... Got a couple of hours?
Have you ever seen how designing an entire line of clothes really work ? It's not simply a couple of hours... You need research teams for fabrics, sewing teams, drawing artists, etc... It's not as cheap as it may seem... Maybe not in the 100 mil range but still...
Further, and this is key, only the movie is truly unique. Clothing is mostly a long term recycle of styles and design long since passed. There really isn't anything new.
So you're telling me Hollywood movies are all great innovative works of art ?? It's basically a short term recycle of special-effects-enhanced, poor storyline movies based on themes long since passed... IMO.... So where is the difference really ??
Techdirt has not posted any stories submitted by LeBazz.
WOW some people are dumb !
