It might be a de facto disbarment

Popehat(?) discussed the ongoing shit storm the Pranda lawyers are facing and something like this came up. Basically the guy accepted a 4-year suspension (iirc) instead of a disbarment. It sounded like a win for him... except that the suspension didn't come with an automatic restoration of the right to practice law and the odds of somebody who was suspended for that long successfully arguing that he should get his license back is basically nil. In essence it's a bargain - if he doesn't force them to go through the entire disbarment process he gets to call himself a "suspended" lawyer instead of a "disbarred" one. I guess the difference is that he can still work as an assistant in a law firm vs. not being able to step through the doors of a law firm.

I don't know if the unstated rules in California are the same but we shouldn't rush to judgement that this is just a slap on the wrist. As others have pointed out he'll have very few job opportunities in a year since anyone on the other side of the table can reasonably ask if anything was fabricated.

    Refunds then>

I've asked them to verify this and then I'll ask how to get a full refund for the cost of my kindle. I bought it specifically because it can hold my extensive technical library and I'm much more willing to lose it than my ipad - and the places where I'll need said technical library are often places where I'll need to use a VPN to talk to the mothership.

The fact that "few" people use the enterprise features doesn't mean that "no" people do - and the people who are using them probably made an informed choice based on things like cost. If they change something fundamental like this it completely changes the calculus of whether the device is worth buying. The fact that I can use it as a third? TV screen at home is irrelevant since I already had a way of doing that and wouldn't have spent a premium on a high resolution, high memory kindle just for it.

    $6 month?!

Where in the world do you get a gym membership for $6/month?

I mean, I feel like Dr. Who asking where Oswin gets the milk for her souffle but WHERE DOES A GYM MEMBERSHIP ONLY COST $6? That screams that you're going to find a lot of surprise charges elsewhere.

The price I keep coming back to is the cost of a 24-hour membership at Costco. I would call this the lowest cost of a reputable membership and it's only because of the bargaining power of Costco and the negotiating power of a guaranteed payment for two years. The last time I checked it's around $300, or about $15/month.

And she walked in and got a $6/month membership? Does. Not. Compute.
